Arjen Schat hails from the Netherlands and has been producing his own unique take on the classic "Berlin School" style of synth music since the mid 2000's. He is also well known for his dub techno project Ohrwert. After several full-lengths and E.P.'s released in the digital realm, we're very happy to bring Arjen's music to the tape format for the first time.
Here he gives us two side long tracks recorded live, straight to tape from analog synths. It’s a cold and crisp production, with just the right amount of hiss. Side A is a full on sequential workout, with dreary progressions and icy pads that gives you the feeling of a long secluded drive through the woods, watching a mix of rain and snow hit the windshield, chasing the sun into the night. Side B ups the ambience, where long droning chords meet warm rolling bass tones. If the first track is the drive home, the second feels like getting beneath the covers, letting the chills fade away and enjoying the warmth of sleep. A dark and thoughtful tape that fits these winter months perfectly!
Chrome high bias tapes with b/w labels. Glossy laser printed b/w cover. Limited to 50 hand-numbered copies. Sold out.
Arjen's newest excursion takes us ever-so-gently through a warm drone field, dappled with glass notes from an electric piano, translucent in the clouds. Once again, music that sounds as if it is already a thirty-year old classic of the genre, with strains of Thursday Afternoon and Ambient 2 flowing effortlessly from the talented hands of Mr. Schat.
